It’s Not Real // Hazel English

If You Listen To Nothing Else Today

Hazel English has finally put out another single, and I have to say it’s even better than the first. Hazel truly has a sound that is so uniquely her own, and you can’t help but like it. Her vocals are so smooth and consistent, and there is never a moment where I find myself thinking I need more or less. When you pair that up with a track that is just upbeat enough to make you nod your head along to, yet calm enough to sit and read a book to, you’ve got a track that everyone is going to have on repeat. This song is perfect for any mood, any day, any weather. So go forth, my friends, and listen to yet another great track from Hazel English.

Alt-J- 27 July 2015

Concert Series
Alt-J @ Red Rocks Ampitheater // Morrison, CO

Alt-J @ Red Rocks Ampitheater // Morrison, CO

Well folks, I thought I had seen the best concert of my life at the ripe old age of 20. Turns out, I was wrong. There isn’t a whole lot to say about this show other than WOW or HOLY SHIT. I left this show feeling as though I had just sat through an hour and a half of a spiritual awakening. Am I being dramatic? Maybe. But there is just no other way to describe the musical wonder that is Alt-J. How is it possible to be listening to a song and have no idea what is being said, and not really even being fully aware of your surroundings, but just being there are feeling the music flow through you so effortlessly? And what makes this feeling even better is that you can tell the entire audience is feeling it with you. Not many artists can do that, but Alt-J did that and then some. If you never see any other band, see this one.

Some technical things that I noticed when I wasn’t in a haze of happiness- they all arrange themselves in a straight line across the stage. No lead singer in the front and drummer in the back, all in one line. Respect. Also, the drummer has not one, but TWO kick drums. That dude’s calves must be made of steel.

I have nothing left to say other than once again, WOW.

Has anyone else caught this show, or is anyone going to in the future? Let me know with a comment below!

Animals EP // KYKO

Weekly Obsession

So you all have seen KYKO featured on The Lucky Velvet before, and it is only fitting that his first ever EP also be featured. This EP dropped last week, and I have to say it may just be the perfect soundtrack to the rest of the summer. Each song perfectly blends classic elements of indie-rock with the newer and more electric vibes of indie-pop, and to top it off, this kid has a perfectly smooth voice to accompany each track. So, here it is track by track.

Animals- If you want a great guitar line and a fantastic drum beat to groove to.

Headlights- If you want one of the catchiest choruses I’ve heard this summer, and some totally soul-fulfilling vocal runs. (This song has also been featured here.)

Mexico- If you want to be able to appreciate some smooth vocals and an equally smooth and chilled out track. I love that it is so chill but also seems to have so much direction behind it. (Do I even make sense?)

Hideaway- If you want a track to ~hide away~ with. It’s cheesy but it really is the perfect track to just sit and get lost in.

Give it a listen, give him some love, be happy with some great tunes.

Miracle // Island Apollo

If You Listen To Nothing Else Today

To me, this song has a very Cold War Kids vibe going on. And to me, that’s great because I happen to be obsessed with Cold War Kids. What I love about this track is how dynamic it is in the span of 4 and a half minutes. It opens with this power rock guitar line, and then in the middle it slows down and almost has this floating vibe going on, and then it picks back up again. One thing is for sure, it’s damn catchy so it will get stuck in your head very easily. I also love the lead singer’s voice and the backing vocals are a great touch. Overall, great track. I highly recommend checking out their other stuff as well.

VHS // X Ambassadors

Weekly Obsession

This album is easily my most anticipated album of the year. I saw these guys for the first time back in November of 2013 when they opened for The Mowgli’s and I had no idea who they were. Their live show sucked me in and I have been listening to them ever since, and now they have finally put out a full length album while I’m over here feeling like a proud mother. The first thing I would like to say is that after that long of a wait, this album met my expectations and more. Listening to it for the first time, I found myself getting more and more excited about it with each track. There were moments when I was literally sitting there, by myself, and a totally sick song would come on and I would say “OH SHIT” out loud to myself. I sound like I’m rambling, but I just love this band and this album and it is so cool to watch a band develop a fan base like X Ambassadors has and to see all their hard work start to really pay off. So after all of my gushing, here are 5 tracks you absolutely must hear.

Hang On- If you want some great backing vocals and harmonizing, which you all know I am a sucker for. Pair that up with a great groove and you have this jam.

Gorgeous- If you want to hear something that, to be honest, reminds me of Nick Jonas’ “Jealous” mixed with T-Swift’s “Style”, and then has some Micheal Jackson-esque vocals thrown in. Just listen to it, you’ll understand.

Fear- If you want my favorite track, and a beat that hits you right in your grooving feels. And then of course some totally on point vocals.

Low Life- If you want a more chill song, and you do because it gives you a chance to really just appreciate Sam’s fabulous voice.

Naked- If you want to hear some sexy sax action, and just a nice message laid down into an awesome track.

As for some more technical parts of this album, the thing I love about it is that in between tracks, they have “interludes” that are actually audio clips of old VHS tapes from their childhoods. Thus, VHS. It all kind of goes chronologically, and it really tells their story just like they want it to. I only gave you 5 tracks because that’s what I do, but you all seriously just need to go listen to the whole album because if I could out up every song, I would.
